The Community Centre, which is a registered charity, belongs to the residents of Ashington and is managed on behalf of the village by the trustees who are drawn from local organisations.
Like many similar organisations, we are very dependent on the goodwill of volunteers from the local community to survive. Without people prepared to carry out these important functions it is difficult to see how the Community Centre can continue to function. . The Community Centre has been a great success providing sporting and social facilities rarely seen in a village the size of Ashington.
The facilities are enjoyed by a thriving playgroup, a weekly mother and toddler meeting and a junior football club with over 100 members, not forgetting the active senior football club and ladies netball. Several badminton groups covering all ages meet throughout the week as do the highly successful short mat bowls club. Martial arts are well represented with Tae Kwon Do and judo as are salsa & pilates fitness sessions. Generations of youngsters have enjoyed the ballet classes for various age groups which have been held every Friday for several years. The centre is also used by the Ashington Players, who stage their productions twice a year and it also provides a great venue for a variety of concerts and social functions, both private and public. We have in recent times started The Ashington Movie Club which has been well received - film showings are usually on a monthly basis and if you wish to be advised of forthcoming films simply send an email to Simon Kinrade on ashingtonmovies@btinternet.com and you will receive regular emails giving full details.
